Read 7 Customer Review(s) for Bosch POF 1400ACE 1/4" Plunge Router
This is the first router i have have owned or used. Although i have seen a friend use one before. I have found it very easy and a delight to use. It is very easy to set up and then very easy to control. I haven't used all of the features yet but for creating grooves or rebates or chopping a long length of something down to size it's great. So far i have used it to make some kitchen plinths narrower and for cutting a shelf to the right size. It's also great if you have cut something slightly too thick and just want to take off a millimeter or two which would be very difficult with a saw. It comes in a good hard carry case which has enough room to fit accesories in e.G. Some more routing bits. I can see me using this a lot in the future.
Nice feel to it and has some safety features which assist in preventing flying wood from flying into face etc. very well engineered and has aditional items for its flexibility in use. well worth the consideration for a regular tool in the workshop.
At the price paid this is a very good router. It is very comfortable to work with and all controls are easily to hand due to good ergonomic design. maintains a good constant speed in use giving a very good finish. The micro adjustment on depth is a very handy addition to this model. Have not had it long enough to comment on reliability but controls feel positive and as good as anything at this price level.
This is my second router, but the only one i have actually used. My first was inherited when my father passed away and i never used it. It was an erbauer from screwfix and i sold it to a friend who had a use for it. I then needed a router for a small project and spent some time surfing the internet to find a suitable item. I basically needs a router to use with a trend dovetail jig, but the reviews of the cheapest trend router were dismal to say the least. I chose the bosch after a lot of searching and this model in particular as it had a slightly more powerful motor and the fine depth adjustment, which on reflection was a very wise move. I was very concerned and actually intimidated about using the router, but soon got the hang of it on a lot of scrap wood. I would now suggest it is probably my most favourite tool. I would certainly recommend this particular router for a hobbyist; i would imagine a professional would need a larger collet than this and probably more power, but for my project, this was perfect. The service from tooled-up was exceptional, with extremely fast and efficient delivery and could not be surpassed in my opinion.
I do really like this router as a hand held item it certainly excels, powerful and extremely comfortable to use, if i was to nit pick may be a little on the heavy side; but that's compensated by quality and stability in use. now i do have one major negative and be warned. If you want to sit this in a table, you cannot lock the trigger without using cable ties or something in that line. That annoyed me a lot! Bosch advertise it as suitable for table, now i'm sorry; but if it cant be locked in the on position then it simply isn't for a table. To bodge a quality item to get it to do a job its meant to do is simply crap: nag over. overall i am happy and glad i have it in my tool cupboard.
Having had a bosch router for many years this model was a big step change. The "stepped" depth stop for incremental cuts is excellent. The light, illuminating the cutting area is a great idea. The provision of an extraction facility is another forward step. The perfomance with the work tackled to date has been first class.
